With kids back in school, now’s the perfect time to get them excited about education. One way to make learning fun is to buy a multi-purpose art easel for them to use. I recently purchased one and updated it with this simple DIY project.
When I saw this wooden art easel, I knew my daughter would have fun using it. One side is a chalkboard, the other side is a magnetic whiteboard (aka dry-erase board).
I love that it can be used multiple ways.
There is even a convenient pull-down paper roll. It allows kids to draw on a clean piece of paper, just by pulling it down more. (Parents: You can tear the artwork off of the paper roll and hang it on the fridge.)

Pretty in pink
Because I wanted to create something original for my daughter, I updated the wooden art easel with just a little bit of spray paint and peel-and-stick wallpaper.
It’s an easy DIY.
I’ll admit I wasn’t a fan of the red color throughout the easel. So, I knew I had to update any piece that had that color. I wanted to make the piece pretty. And I wanted it to match the colors of her room, which are seafoam and pink.
First, I bought Rust-Oleum spray paint and covered all the red wood pieces with it. I made sure to spray a couple of coats to get the best coverage.
Secondly, I searched for cheap peel-and-stick wallpaper in a beautiful floral print. Most of the options I found were expensive. And I only needed a little bit to cover the easel tray.
Finally, I found the perfect peel-and-stick wallpaper. And it was available in a sample size! After a little measuring and trimming, I added the wallpaper to the red tray. I even had enough leftover wallpaper to cover the chalkboard erasers.
So, for only a little bit more money, I was able to make an original art easel for my daughter. And I’ll brag: She loves it!
