The countdown to Christmas might have already begun in your house, so I thought I’d share an easy DIY project for you to file away until you start shopping for gifts. Last Christmas, my daughter’s big gift from Santa was a play kitchen. I found a cute one from KidKraft and I decided to put my own spin on it.
The play kitchen that I purchased from Kohl’s online was the perfect size for our tiny house. And it was made of wood, not plastic, which I liked.
I could have just left it as it was and she would have loved it. But I thought it would be fun to update it to match our own kitchen.
Our kitchen has a very beachy feel. It was one of the rooms we knew we had to immediately update when we bought our house. I will blog about the renovation in a future post. But, getting back to my play kitchen update: We have a beautiful seafoam backsplash in our kitchen and I thought I might be able to find the same or similar color in peel and stick tile for the play kitchen backsplash.
And, sure enough, I did!
You can find anything on Amazon
This almost identical peel and stick subway tile is available on Amazon. I was able to buy three 12-inch by 12-inch sheets (which was all I needed) for less than $18. Now it’s available in a set of five for $29.97 or 10 sheets for $39.97. Other colors and styles are also available.
So, a few days before Christmas, Santa got to work and measured, cut and stuck the backsplash onto the blank side of the kitchen backing. This way, if the backsplash didn’t work or it looked funny, it could always be turned back around to show the fake kitchen scene.
Luckily for me, the backsplash looked amazing after it was attached. It really looked like a mini version of our kitchen. And it was a super easy DIY project.
